Biography


(EARLY LIFE)

She was born on November 7, 1943 in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand. She graduated from Otago Girl's High School and University of Otago. She gained the Banchelor of Laws (LL.B) degree in 1967 at that University.

She married Peter Cartwright.
Her current job is a lawyer.


(IMPORTANT JOBS)

She was the first female Chief District Court Judge in 1989.
She was the first woman to be appointed to the High Court in 1993.
She promoted the Govener-General of New Zealand in 2001. Her tenure of office is 5 years. (4 April 2001 to 4 August 2006)


(IMPORTANT EVENTS)

Cartwright Inquiry - She observed the issues related to cervical cancer and its treatment at Auckland's National Women's Hospital.
She participated in the Committe on the Elimination of Discrimination against women.
The Dame Sylvia Cartwright Lecture Series - When she works as a lawyer, the Auckland Women Lawyers' Association established in 2007.
