Wellington, New Zealand

Jane Campion was born in Wellington, New Zealand. Her parents have a job which related to the film industry, for example, her father is a theater and opera directer, and her mother is a writer and actor. At first, she graduated form Victoria University with bachelor degree in Anthropology. Then she focused on studying painting and earned a bachelor’s degree in painting at Sydney College of the Arts while travelling Europe a few years. She worked at the Australian Women’s Film Unit, and began to make some short films from late 1970s. Her primary works “Two Friends”(1986) and “Sweetie”(1989) show her talented and sensible sense to the audience by treating human life. “The Piano”(1993) is the most successful film in her career. It is a romantic drama film about a widow piano player who will not speak and a man who cannot listen. “The Piano” gave 3 Awards to Jane Campion, so she was regarded as one of the great film director from New Zealand.



(CURRENT PERSONAL LIFE)


Jane Campion becomes one of the notable female film director by “The Piano”. After that, she released some films such as “The Portrait of a Lady”(1996) with Nikole Kidman, “Holy Smoke!”(1999), “In the Cut”(2003). Her latest film “Bright Star”(2009) was screened at the Cannes Film Festival. She widen her appeal like the head of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival 2013, and she has already announced again for Cannes Festival 2014. In her personal life, she has a daughter named Alice Englert who plays in ”Ginger and Rosa”(2012) and “Beautiful Creatures”(2013).
