Biography

(EARLY LIFE) 
In the 1944 on March 6th, Kiri Te Kanawa was born in Gisborne, Nez Zealand with European and Maori heritage. She also has sister Mary Leo. When she was 20, she got first prize of New Zealand Mobil Song Quest. At same time, her recording career has begun.  Next year, she moved to London to study Opera, and got the prize of ARIA award at Australia. Then, next year she got Gold Record. It is first New Zealand artist awarded.

In 1999, Kiri released a new album “Maori Songs” which was sung the praise of her background and home land. This album was admired, and in 2000, it was forecasted over 80countris. In 2002, she participate Jubilee Concert for the Queen in Buckingham Palace garden. In 2004, she retire Opera singer, but still continues the performance in the world, for example Australia, Canada, Spain, Germany, Brazil, USA, China and other many countries. Moreover, she established Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation.

Current life, she established Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation. This institution consists of fund from many people, and support to improve the singing abilities of young New Zealand person. To them, Kiri teaches a lot of skills she has.
